Agra Fort was one of the most important forts during the Mughal period and is today one of the best places to visit in Agra. The great Akbar made this fort his home during his entire reign till 1605.

Another Mughal tomb on the banks of river Yamuna, the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula is one of the best places to visit in Agra. It is known to be inspired by the architecture and interior of the Taj Mahal as it also has traces of white marble from Rajasthan amidst red sandstone. And for this reason it is also known as "Baby Taj".

The tomb was built by Nur Jahan in 1628. The latticework made of white marble beautifully illuminates the interior of the tomb. Don't miss out on the semi-precious stones carved into the white marble interiors of the tomb.

Akbar’s Tomb

Akbar's tomb was built by Jahangir in 1613. If you are a history buff, then this is one of the best places to visit in Agra for you. Akbar's tomb is built out of red sandstone and has some of the most stunning marble designs.

As you enter the building, you will find exquisite marble designs on the ceiling and mysterious calligraphy leading to the actual underground tomb of Akbar. 

The largest gate around the tomb is the south gate where you can see the intricate white marble designs on their panels. The original tomb of Akbar is in a small underground room which gives a very sublime feel.

Moti Masjid

Moti Masjid was built by Shah Jahan in 1648 on the banks of river Yamuna. Though very few people know about it, it is one of the best places to visit in Agra.
The mosque is famous for its delicate design and architecture on dazzling white marble which gives it the name "Moti Masjid". But one aspect that attracts many tourists to visit this mosque is how it miraculously stands on a slope with many arched depressions and side arcades.

Sikandra Fort

Sikandra Fort houses the tomb of the great emperor Akbar. The fort is known for its magnificent gates, tombs and red sandstone design which makes it one of the most visited tourist places in Agra. The fort is also known for its architecture which is a mixture of Islamic and Hindu designs.

Although this tomb belongs to Akbar- the greatest Mughal emperor, the architecture of this fort has a strong influence of Hindu architecture. Jodha Bai ka Rauja

Jodha Bai Ka Rauza or Jodha's Palace in Agra was built by Akbar for his favorite queen Jodha. The monument stands as a symbol of peaceful Hindu-Muslim relations making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Agra.
Like all other palaces, this is the biggest palace of Fatehpur Sikri made of red sandstone. However, what sets it apart is the mix of Gujarati elements in the architectural designs and the beautifully painted blue ceiling.

Mehtab Bagh

Mehtab Bagh in Agra is an Agra fort to the north of the Taj Mahal and on the banks of the Yamuna River. This is one of the many hidden places to visit in Agra. The garden has a Char Bagh which is a quadrilateral garden motif inspired by the Four Gardens of Heaven mentioned in the Quran. The garden stands in perfect symmetry with a view of the Taj Mahal.
It is also said that there was a place in the garden from where Shah Jahan saw the moonlit Taj Mahal, thus giving the garden the name of Mehtab Bagh. The surrealistic views and a perfect location for a couple photoshoot have made Mehtab Bagh one of the most popular tourist attractions in Agra.

Jama Masjid

Chini ka Rauja

Made of innumerable colored Chinese tiles, this is one of the most unique historical places to visit in Agra, which was built in 1635. This mausoleum is situated on the banks of river Yamuna and attracts visitors with stunning Indo-Persian architecture. The unique building uses glass windows extensively.

It houses the tomb of Afzal Khan, an eminent poet and minister in the court of Shah Jahan. When you come here, you will appreciate the various colors of Chinese tiles such as turquoise, orange, yellow and green embellished with many images and inscriptions from the holy book Quran.
