The starting point of the Amarnath Cave Yatra

You can use either Pahalgam or Baltal travel route to visit Amarnath Cave. From both the paths you can easily reach the cave of Shri Amarnath and get the darshan of Swayambhu Mahadev.

Story About The Amarnath Cave

A popular legend is also famous about this holy cave. It is believed that Lord Shiva narrated the story of immortality, the rarest and most powerful of the gods, to Mother Parvati. At that time a Shuka (Parrot) was also present there and he too attained immortality after listening to that story. And came to be known as Shukadev.

Gradually, Brahma, Vishnu and all the gods also reached this story to Lord Shiva with the desire to become immortal. Also, there is another legend that the cave of Amarnath was discovered 700 years ago by a buta. Buta takes his sheep to the mountains to graze where he is given a basket full of coal by a monk. As soon as he comes home with the basket, that coal turns into gold. Buta goes back to the top of the mountain to thank the monk, but there he finds the cave of Amarnath, not the monk.

The best time to visit Amarnath is from June to the end of August. Because in winter, due to snowfall and extreme cold, the roads leading to the cave of Amarnath are closed.
