Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple


  • Trimbakeshwar is located in the Nashik district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. It is situated at a distance of about 30 kms from Nashik Railway Station. This temple is made of black stones and is situated on the banks of river Godavari. This ancient temple was rebuilt by the third Peshwa Balaji i.e. Nana Saheb Peshwa. The biggest feature of this Jyotirlinga is that there are three small lingas in the pit of this temple. Adjoining, which is considered to be the symbol of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.In all other Jyotirlingas, only Lord Shiva is enshrined. Jyotirlinga is close to Brahmagiri mountain.
  • According to mythology, this place was the penance land of Gautam Rishi in ancient times, to get rid of the sin of killing cows on him, Gautam Rishi did severe penance, after that asked Lord Shiva for a boon to descend the Ganges here. The distance of Pandava Leni cave from Nashik is about 9 kilometers. A group of 24 caves cut into a long line on the north face of the hill called Trirasmi. These caves are one of the oldest caves in Maharashtra.
